Toolboxes & BCS Christmas Parade

Saturday was spent installing toolboxes. That really is all I have to say about that. Besides the fact that I did jump some rope and get some exercise while watching Kason and Justin install two toolboxes to the back of their trucks.

Sunday however was much more entertaining. We went to the BCS Christmas Parade. Kason was marching in the parade with Ross Volunteers. It was my first time to see him in his white uniform. I was telling Mrs. Knight at the parade that even an ugly boy can look cute in those white uniforms! Justin and I ate at Taco Cabana then walked over to where they formed up for some pictures before the parade began. Justin & Me before the parade- I LOVE BEING IN THE SAME TOWN AS HIM! I couldn't be happier. Obviously he is thrilled as well, can't you tell by his face?! Kason, profile shot. The Ross Volunteer Sign. The Knight Men- Justin, Kason and Mr. Knight. The men rounding up before getting ready to march. Kason with his gun. His squad all lined up and ready to go. The parade has begun. Texas & American Flag- I'm so proud.

Secret Santa

Once we got home from dinner the real fun began...opening presents!!!
Chelsea had Megan and got her a super cute nightgown from Victoria Secret & some chocolate for the chocoholic Megan is... Megan had Kimberly and got her a VS gift card and some massage oil (Kimberly gives the BEST back massages!) Kimberly had Lauren and got her some super cute PJ shorts and some Godiva chocolate! Lauren had me and got me a "Sprinkles" Red Velvet cupcake mix (Sprinkles is a cupcake brand based in Dallas which are AMAZING!), an OPI nailpolish and a cute pair of undies from VS. (She said she went with a red theme for Christmas). I had Jordan and got her a super cute decorated wine class that says, "I found the perfect holiday card for you" and when you spin it around the inside reads, "because you can fill it with wine!" (Jordan loves her wine). Jordan had Chelsea and got her a book and some wine stoppers. This is probably one of the last pictures we will have of the six of us for quite some time. For those of you who dont know... Kimberly, Lauren and Megan are staying here next semester to finish out their last semester. Kimberly is then moving to New York, Lauren is moving to Dallas where she recently got into Baylor Dental School, and Megan will more than likely also be moving to Dallas. Chelsea is moving to Houston to train for her new job for six months then will be moving to Dallas. Jordan got into Rollins Graduate school and is moving to Flordia at the end of this month. I am moving home to do my Student Teaching. We all are growing up...how I have been blessed with my friends. I will miss them all very much...

Our Last Christmas

Friday night was our last Christmas together. Right after Thanksgiving we drew for a secret Santa. We thought it would be better for us to just have one person to get a gift for rather than five, considering as my dad likes to put it we are all, "poor college kids." : ) We drew names and gave ourselves a $25 limit. We decided we would have a nice dinner at Atame, the new Japaneses place on University by the big fountains and then exchange gifts after dinner. I had a horrible migraine but I was determined to have a good night with the girls. All of our presents...can you tell we like Victoria's Secret?
Our last fireplace picture with the six of us. Jordan just got her wisdom teeth out and she was such a champ, I had to have a good time despite my headache. Kimberly and Me before dinner being silly. Jordan & Chelsea at the restaurant waiting to be seated next to the Christmas tree. Lauren and Kimberly waiting to be seated.

After we ate it was off to the house to open presents...

PJ's and Onesies with Footies

Last night was the annual Christmas party that the boys down the street throw. You are supposed to dress festive and Chelsea had an excellent idea. She wore a Christmas onsie with footie's!!! She gave me the idea to wear my Christmas pj's that have Christmas trees on them. I only stayed for a little while but while I was there I got some cute pictures. It is sad. Today I woke up and realized I will never be in college again. There will never be nights where I can walk down the street and celebrate school being done with my friends, or the next morning wake up and go across the street for some amazing banana sour cream pancakes. : ( It is sad, therefore I have to enjoy my last two weeks with my best friends before I have to become a real adult. The rest of this blog is pictures from last night.

I want to make that difference

Today was my last day of school. Tuesday was a redefined Thursday so of course our teachers made us go. It was one of the most pointless days of classes ever but it got me out of the house and I was able to spend time with the girls one last time. : (

However, I wanted to share a story with you that my teacher shared with me. She has been my favorite professor at A&M since I had her last Fall for Reading and I just had her for Social Studies. She is an amazing woman and an even better teacher! I love her! Anyways, today she read us the book "My Great Aunt Arizona"- love the book- own it. It truly does talk about how teachers can have a life time effect on children.

After reading the book to us (which by the way she dressed up with petticoats and all- see picture below) she showed us something she had started as a first year teacher and all of us are waiting patiently to do the same thing for our rooms. While student teaching, her mentor teacher gave her a journal and inside that journal she had written her a letter. Following the letter from the teacher, she had attached a school picture (you know how teachers get the little copy of each students) and each child had written her a letter on each page. She took this to her first year teaching and continued doing it every year. She said about a month before school would get out she would put the journal at a center and they would write her a letter on the page with their picture & name on it. It was amazing to look through. She said she brought only her first edition but that she has many. She told us a story to go with this though. She opened the worn book to her first year of teaching (3rd grade) and showed us a picture of "A" (new name). He had only written "We went to the zoo, math, spelling and reading." She told us he was ED 4 (which is the worst case of Emotionally Disturbed), a crack baby, and had an IQ of 62 (right above mental retardation). She said he wore her thin everyday, cursing at her, pulling down his pants, destroying windows, throwing furniture...you name it- he did it. She tried so hard with him and ended up in the counselors office every day after school crying because she didn't understand why she was a first year teacher and had such a horrible kid in her classroom.

So the year ended and she moved back to college station where she got married and began teaching. EIGHT years later she got a phone call from the counselor from that school with "A." She answered and was extremely curious as to what she owed the pleasure of hearing from her was. The counselor asked if she remembered her and my teacher said OF COURSE I was in your office everyday upset about "A." The counselor said good you remember "A", she continued to tell her that she no longer worked for the school district but for the prison system. My teacher was still baffled by why she was receiving this call. The counselor told her she had seen "A" quite a few times in and out of prison, he had been in gang activity but that he was part of an armed robbery and would be going away for good this time...(teacher still wondering why she was being called about this). The counselor continued and told her...when new inmates come in they do certain things with each inmate to try to get to the root of their problems. One of the tests they do is they make the inmates write a list of everyone they KNOW loves them. "A" only wrote one name, my teacher. She almost teared up telling us and I know I teared up listening.

She may have books full of letters from different students but she will always remember the story of "A." To have that kind of influence on a child amazes me. She said, "I didn't keep him out of prison or gangs, but I let him know there was SOMEONE who loved him"- Sometimes that's all the kids need--- (The picture is of her holding Great Aunt Arizona and also her journal of kids letters)

Not only did she make a difference in "A" life but mine also. She is a great women and a such a good teacher. I hope I will be able to make differences in children's life just like she did.

Today was my last day with the girls. For science we played a game about the food chain outside. Here is the three of them after the game.

After the game we were free to go for the day. I walked around a little and took some picture because today was my last time on campus as a student. : ( Also, tonight is sliver taps so I took some pictures of that also.

Hope Now

I am in love with this song by Addison Road!
The lyrics and the words can speak to us in so many different situations our lives bring us.
"I'm not my own
I've been carried by You
all my life"
As Christians we have such a beautiful HOPE...no matter what the world may bring...we have been set free from the worldly struggles...our Faith sets us free. Just like the song says...
"how quickly I forget I'm yours."
That is SO my prayer right now...all the stresses that come with everyday life...I pray that I don't quickly forget who my Father is!
Here is the music video & the chorus
I am not my own
I have been carried by you
all my life
Everything rides on hope now
Everything rides on faith somehow
When the world has broken me down
Your love sets me free

Inkheart

The family traditon to go and see a animated movie never fails to bring excitment and childlike bewilderment and for those 2 hours you can be a kid and laugh at things you wouldnt normally laugh at. You can relax and enjoy. At the begining of this adventure into "Bolt" one preview caught my eye....INKHEART. It is a trilogy. Here is the trailer:

After the movie, we all walked down the mall to Barnes and Noble where I purchased a copy of Inkheart. I started reading it that night and have yet to be able to put it down. Today all I did was read! Like seriously, I got up to eat, change the clothes over, put a new load in and then was back to reading! It is so good! I cant wait to finish it and start the second one! The movie comes out January 23rd or according to this trailer the 9th! I can hardly wait!!
